Welcome to Artichoke
Community Music
Artichoke Community Music
forms the heart of the folk music community in Portland, Oregon. Whether you
are learning to play an instrument, are a professional musician, or just
want to listen to some great music with friends, consider us your home.
Building Community Through Music One Heart at a
Time
Our mission is to provide
a friendly, encouraging place where people of all ages can
experience the joy of making music. We seek to keep alive the tradition of folk
music―and of making music together in community―
through a vibrant and varied program of services that include:
Music School
Approximately 40
talented, caring musician/teachers offer one-on-one and group classes
through our Music School. They also offer a variety of special music
workshops
throughout the year.
Concerts & Events
Artichoke Community Music offers a lively
menu of concerts and ongoing events that give you the opportunity to
listen to―and
make―music.
For example:
-
Our Backgate Stage provides a warm, intimate―and acoustically
inviting―venue for the best local and national musicians in folk music.
-
The Friday Night Coffee House
gives new and seasoned performers the
opportunity to get experience and try out new material before a live
audience.
-
The Saturday Afternoon Song Circle brings together
singers and instrumentalists who want to make music just for the
joy of it.
We also offer frequent
jam sessions,
workshops, and
special programs.
