Eileen Walter

Music Bio

Classically trained as a child, Eileen Walter has been playing the fiddle for 25 years, performing, teaching, and participating in fiddle contests. She has won many local and regional contests, including the Northwest Regional and the Oregon State Adult Divisions. She is in demand as a contest judge and has judged many contests in Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, and Oklahoma. In 2004 she had the honor of judging the national contest in Weiser, Idaho.

 Eileen is a former member of the contradance band Island, and a long time member of the Oregon Old-time Fiddler’s Association. She has studied with some of the country’s finest fiddlers, including former local violinist Hollis Taylor. Eileen performs locally as Extra Measure, a fiddle and guitar duo with her husband Jeff Walter and she enjoys passing along her love of fiddling to others. Eileen teaches basic techniques, basic music theory, and fun tunes to beginning and intermediate students by ear or by written music.

Her studio, Extra Measure Fiddleworks, is located at 6020 SE Lexington Street in Portland. Morning, afternoon, and evening appointments are available.
