Music Bio
I approach teaching from the standpoint of students having fun, learning
repertoire, developing skills to create their own music with, and
gaining a knowledge and understanding of music that enables them to
pursue and understand whatever music they are interested in.
I have a
B.A. in music from Marylhurst University, and have studied
music at Portland State University, Reed College and Portland Community
College and have been teaching for 7 years.
I will structure lessons
around your interests and help you build fundamental skills that are applicable
to all styles of music. I find music fun and fascinating, so this is the
core from which I teach.
Outside of teaching, I have performed,
recorded and composed with bands and ensembles and worked with film makers, commercial makers, modern dancers and theater
companies for the past 23 years. Currently, I lead the group 3 Leg Torso
(www.3legtorso.com), an ensemble that plays Eastern European,
Middle-Eastern, Tango, Latin and Modern Chamber music. I also play Klezmer and Jazz (Klezmocracy and Point of Departure) and compose and
play music for Do Jump Extremely Physical Theater & Live Wire Radio
Show.
