Music Bio
I've been playing guitar and
piano all of my life. I became interested in bluegrass guitar when my
neighbor and good friend Dave Trainer (former fiddler for "Sam Hill"),
introduced me to the music and taught me some tunes. For years we were a
street act, traveling across the states three times and to Europe once. What
an experience! For two years I studied with George Chudacoff, teacher at
Artichoke Music.
George gave me the knowledge
and inspiration to take my guitar to the next level. We formed a duo called
"The Sunburst Brothers". George suggested that I teach guitar, which has
been a very rewarding endeavor! Over the course of the past two years I have
also been privileged to study with Steve Kaufman, Wayne Henderson, David
Grier, and Scott Huffman. I hosted a guitar workshop for Jim Hurst, and I
host a weekly outdoor bluegrass jam in the summer months.
Other influences include
Clarence White, Doc Watson, Tony Rice, Norman Blake, and Bryan Sutton. I
offer private lessons and workshops. My lessons focus on ear training,
introducing music theory only as a roadmap to the fretboard. I share lots of
guitar and fiddle tunes using tablature. I select tunes most popular in
bluegrass jams so students can feel comfortable and confident playing with
others. I look forward to hearing from you.
Feel free to call me for more
info.
