Music Bio
NOW ACCEPTING STUDENTS! This Portland guitar icon is spreading the good
music around by finally teaching the rest of us how playing guitar gets THAT
fun. Jon Neufeld is an old friend at Artichoke and we are thrilled that he's
joining the roster to teach guitar. If YOU are looking to learn from one of
the best, get in touch with Jon and make plans to really enjoy growing music
on your guitar!
Here's what he's got to say ...
I started out as a drummer. I played for about 10 years.
When I was 14, I switched over to guitar. I was into people like Frank
Zappa, Pat Matheny and John McLaughlin. My father is a touring musician
(songwriter/guitar), and my mother is a wonderful pianist and vocalist. I
grew up playing drums in church with my mom and dad. That is the basis I
came from. Playing with people, learning when to play, when not to, what
adds, what takes away from a tune.
I like to teach now to pass on things that I've learned
after playing out and touring for a good 10 years. I really enjoy meeting
new people and seeing where they're at, where they want to go and coming up
with a game plan to get where they would like to be.
I now play in a gypsy jazz group called the "Kung Pao
Chickens" and with a bluegrass group called "Jackstraw". Occassionally, I
get the chance to do a duo gig with my friend Danny Barnes, which is always
a thrill!
Playing music is fun and I like to think that getting a
guitar lesson can be fun too. I know it's fun teaching. I enjoy it
thoroughly. Give me a call and have a great time learning to play guitar!
